Pearl River men earn five All-Region 23 selections

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The accolades continue to roll in for the Pearl River men's soccer team as five Wildcats were named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 team.

Among those who were honored were forward Mohamed Diallo (Gulfport), goalkeeper Maddux Francis (Poplarville), midfielder Andre Nicholson (Kingston, Jamaica.; Clarendon College), midfielder Ryley Smith (Manchester, England.; Castlebrook), and defender Gavin Taylor (Gulfport).

MADDUX FRANCIS
The 6-foot-2 Francis was outstanding in his first season in the maroon-and-gold. The William Carey transfer finished the season with 68 saves and just seven goals allowed.

His 0.44 goals-against average and .907 save percentage placed him at the top of the NJCAA leaderboards.

On the year, he claimed four MACCC Goalkeeper of the Week awards and two NJCAA Goalkeeper of the Week awards.

GAVIN TAYLOR
Taylor was an instrumental part of Pearl River's stout defense that allowed just seven goals on the season. Pearl River's 11 shutouts placed the Wildcats at third in the country.

In addition to his defensive play, he chipped in three assists.

MOHAMED DIALLO
Diallo was a threat to create a scoring chance each time that the ball touched his feet.

He followed up an impressive freshman campaign by bagging eight goals while assisting on five.

ANDRE NICHOLSON
Nicholson provided creative play in the midfield often dribbling out of trouble and finding the right passes. He finished his 2021 season with five goals and four assists.

The Jamaican's great season resulted in a United Soccer Coaches All-America selection.

RYLEY SMITH
Smith was tasked with being the attacking midfielder and made sure to score and dish out assists while doing it.

He tied for the team lead in assists with seven and assisted on five goals.
