Marley Freeman, Ta'Zir Smith named Wildcats of the Week

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Following outstanding performances, Pearl River basketball standouts Marley Freeman (Brandon) and Ta'Zir Smith (Woodbridge, Va.; Virginia Academy) have been named Wildcats of the Week.

MARLEY FREEMAN
A New Mexico State transfer, Freeman was incredible in Pearl River's lone game last week. In the 78-32 victory, Freeman was a true floor general, finishing with 11 points, four assists, three steals and one rebound. Her 11 points came on 4-for-8 shooting from the field and a 2-for-2 showing at the free-throw line.

Through 11 games, Freeman is averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds at the point guard position for the Wildcats.

TA'ZIR SMITH
Smith had one of the most impressive weeks of the year in Pearl River's perfect week on the court, averaging a double-double. In the 113-51 win over Baton Rouge Post Grad, Smith tallied 20 points, 18 rebounds, five steals, five assists and two blocks. He followed it up with another impressive performance in a 68-62 victory against Baton Rouge. He finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Through three games played, Smith is averaging 22 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 4.7 steals. 

UP NEXT
Pearl River returns to action Tuesday for a home doubleheader against East Mississippi. Tipoff in the women's game is set for 5:30 p.m. while the men's game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
