Poplarville native Bill Mitchell was an All-American running back for the 1952-53 Wildcats. He scored 15 touchdowns in 1952 and is listed in the PRC record book for returning punts 80 and 70 yards for touchdowns.
Mitchell left PRC to go to William Carey College, where he played for the newly organized Crusaders football team. Upon graduation, Mitchell went to North Mississippi where he served as a minister. He was director of student enlistment at William Carey College from 1956 to 1966 and he served as a minister in the Forrest County area until his death in April 1990.
He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Davis, also a graduate of PRC and William Carey, founded the Golden Age Ministry in Hattiesburg.
