No. 4 Pearl River leaves little doubt in final Classic win

DECATUR, Miss. — No. 4 Pearl River closed out the two-day East Central Classic on Tuesday with another convincing victory, this time toppling Faith Prep Academy 98-60.

PRCC defeated Bevill State 100-54 on Monday.

The Wildcats (7-0 overall) continued to set the tone early in contests, racing out to a 49-24 halftime lead. Pearl River didn't let up in the second half, cruising to the 38-point victory.

"It was a little sloppy, actually," Pearl River coach Chris Oney said. "We hung in there and made some pretty good runs to extend the lead as we needed to, but we didn't hustle as hard as I thought we should have. Playing back-to-back nights for the second straight week, and with Thanksgiving a couple days away, I think it probably took its toll."

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

Although the Wildcats rested several regulars, six players still scored in double figures. Rodgerick Brown (Memphis, Tenn.; Cordova) led the Wildcats with a 20-point performance. Jamarcus Jones (Sardis, Miss.; North Panola) and JaRonn Wilkens (Biloxi) scores 17 and 14 points respectively. Kelvin Allen (Olive Branch) added 12 points, with Kolby Moore (Clinton) and Dontavius Proby (Biloxi) each scoring 10. Jones, Brown, Proby and Moore's totals were all career-highs.

NEXT UP

The Wildcats won't return to action until Dec. 9 when they travel to Wesson to open their MACJC slate at Copiah-Lincoln. That is PRCC's lone competition until winter break. The Wildcats will play at Delgado on Jan. 7 before returning to Marvin R. White Coliseum on Jan. 9 to host East Central.
