NEW ORLEANS — No. 4 Pearl River showed limited signs of rust coming off the winter break Tuesday night. Despite some moderate hiccups early, the Wildcats raced past Delgado 95-50.  

The win completed a 2019-20 sweep of the Dolphins (2-10 overall) after the Wildcats (9-0) opened the season with a 98-53 victory over Delgado.

"I told them at the half that the mistakes we were making were because we were so anxious to play; I mean we were so ready to play. They were trying to make the right plays, it was just moving too fast," Pearl River coach Chris Oney said. "I'm always proud of them being ready to play, which I guess has been the case for nine games this year."

FAST START

Tuesday's contest at the Williamson Center was never really in doubt.

The Wildcats opened with a 5-0 lead and soon held a 14-4 lead courtesy of an Isaih Moore (Columbia, S.C.; Sumter) dunk off of an alley-oop pass from Earl Smith (Jackson; Lanier).

Back-to-back slams from Rodgerick Brown (Memphis, Tenn.; Cordova) and Moore pushed PRCC's lead to 18-8. 

Moments later Tae Hardy (Ellenwood, Ga.; Believe Prep) caught an outlet pass from Jariyon Wilkens (Biloxi) for an easy transition layup and a 22-8 lead around the mid-way point of the first half.

PRCC didn't let up as the half progressed as Cameron Smith (Okolona) hit his lone 3-pointer of the frame from way behind the arc for a 29-11 advantage.

Pearl River took a 47-15 advantage into the break thanks to 67.1 percent shooting from the floor. Moore led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Dolphins never challenged in the second half even as PRCC emptied its bench. With a rotating cast of five on the floor, PRCC maintained its lead in the second frame by shooting 51.4 percent.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

Four Wildcats scored in double figures.

Moore tied a season-high with 27 points. His 12 rebounds gave the St. John's signee his fifth double-double of the season. Hardy scored 19, while Smith and Kelvin Allen (Olive Branch) added 12 and 11 respectively.

Hardy tied Wilkens for the team lead with four assists and also collected a team-high five steals. 

NEXT UP

The Wildcats return to action Thursday with a home matchup against MACJC foe East Central. Tip at Marvin R. White Coliseum is set for 7:30 p.m.

"When the year first started, we looked at the schedule and I told them the month of January was going to be crazy," Oney said. "If we can get through this month on the positive side, I think we'll have done really well."
