No. 11 Pearl River open Region XXIII Tournament against Coahoma 

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The No. 11 Pearl River Wildcats will begin their march for a potential Region XXIII Tournament three-peat on Thursday when they welcome Coahoma to Marvin R. White Coliseum. Opening tip in Poplarville is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on PRCCMedia.com/gold and WRJWRadio.com

WILDCATS

Pearl River (10-1 overall) enters Thursday's game after a 13-day layoff due to COVID protocols but the Wildcats are also riding a five-game win streak.

Two difference makers for the Wildcats this season have been the Wilkens twins. Jariyon and Jaronn (Biloxi) are first and second on the Wildcats respectively with 14.6 and 14.4 points per game. Cameron Brown (Hattiesburg) is third on the team in scoring at 12.6 ppg followed by Earl Smith (Jackson; Lanier) whose averaging 12.4 a game. The Wildcats are averaging 78.1 points a game and are shooting an astounding 49.4 percent from the floor.

Leading the Wildcats in securing boards is J'Quan Ewing (Clarksville, Tenn; Kenwood) whose averaging 7.1 rebounds per game followed by Jaryion Wilkens whose averaging seven rebounds a game. 

Joe Cooper (Olive Branch) leads the Wildcats in assists averaging 4.7 a game. 

SCOUTING COAHOMA

Coahoma comes into Poplarville with a 3-11 record and are coming off a 63-58 win over Mississippi Delta in Tuesday's play-in game. The Tigers' three wins have come over Delta twice and Itawamba. Coahoma is averaging 67.3 ppg and shooting .410 from the floor. 

SERIES

PRCC and CCC were scheduled to play earlier this season in February but that game was cancelled. 

The last time the Wildcats played Coahoma was in November of 2018, when they defeated the Tigers 85-81 en route to the program's first Region XXIII Championship.
