No. 16 Pearl River earns two All-MACCC selections

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Region 23 champion Pearl River men's basketball team received more honors Tuesday as the MACCC announced its All-Conference teams. Jaronn Wilkens (Biloxi) was named first team and Cameron Brown (Hattiesburg) earned second team honors.

"This group has lost five games in two years. That takes the ultimate sacrifice and an extreme buy-in from the guys," head coach Chris Oney said. "I'm just excited that they're both Wildcats and that I get another week with them at the national tournament next week."

JARONN WILKENS
Wilkens has proven to be one of the top players in the conference in his Pearl River career. He showed his dominance once again in the 2021-22 season as he helped lead the Wildcats to a MACCC regular-season championship and a third Region 23 title in four seasons.

So far, the forward is averaging 12.4 points per game while shooting an impressive 61.5 percent from the field. His field goal percentage places him at 30th in the NJCAA.

He led the Wildcats in rebounding this season, pulling in 5.9 rebounds per game. He also tallied two assists per game.

Wilkens had one of his best games of the season in Pearl River's Region 23 title game against Meridian. The sophomore finished with a double-double by tallying 20 points and 11 rebounds on 10-for-11 shooting. He also had four assists in the game.

"I'm very proud of Jaronn. To follow up his All-American season with a season just as spectacular is amazing," Oney said. "He's the ultimate team guy and I'm sure that if you asked him about this award the first thing he would do is thank his teammates. He's also a kid who has lost just five games in three years so he's a winner first"

CAMERON BROWN
Brown was huge for the Wildcats this season as he finished second on the team in points per game with 10.9. He also tallied 3.3 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game and one steal per game on the year.

Brown scored in double figures 18 times during the 2021-22 season.

One of his best games of the season game in a victory over then No. 22 Northeast. The guard finished the night with 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and a block in the 80-70 overtime win.

"Cam is such an unselfish guy. He's a great teammate and the guys love him," Oney said. "He's gotten better and better since day one. He works extremely hard and we would not have enjoyed the success over the last two years without him.
