Pearl River golf earns fifth at East Central Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. — The Pearl River golf team rebounded from a tough outcome in their last tournament to turn in a solid performance in the East Central Invitational. The Wildcats finished 43-over after a two-round total of 623, earning a fifth-place finish.

"I told the guys that we had to get ready for the conference tournament," Pearl River coach Coby Scarborough said. "Going into East Central's event, I told them that our goal this week was to go in there and finish fifth or better. I think they realized that was obtainable.

"They went out and put on a great show. We've been doing great in the first round, but not keeping that pace in the second. I was happy we kept it up in the second round this time."

LEADING THE WAY
Timothy Turnage (Picayune) led the way for the Wildcats. The Mississippi University for Women transfer shot a 76 in round one followed by a 73 in the second round. Overall, he finished 5-over and tied for 10th place.

"Timmy will tell you that he's been struggling lately," Scarborough said. "He hasn't been able to find his swing and his putting game has been off. He's just been in a rut. We've been simplifying things for him. I was happy to see him go out and have a good performance."

Hunter Robinson (Purvis) tied for 13th place with a score of 8-over. The sophomore was cruising through the first 14 holes and sat at 2-over, but a tough final stretch caused him to fall back in the standings.

Quentin Baker (Poplarville) finished 12-over to finish in 25th place.

Chandler Vann (West Monroe, La.) and Carson Cunningham (Carriere; Pearl River Central) rounded out the PRCC golfers with scores of 23-over and 24-over, respectively.
