No. 10 Pearl River continues hot start in victory at Copiah-Lincoln

WESSON, Miss. — No. 10 Pearl River built on its momentum on Friday, netting six goals in a 6-1 rout of Copiah-Lincoln.

"It's nice to get goals from different places around the field," said coach Drew Gallant. "It's great that we have players who can step in and fill holes for us. It's always nice to score on set pieces, but to get some goals in play is great."

Pearl River (7-0 overall; 6-0 MACCC South) got the scoring started in the early minutes of the contest. A corner kick booted towards goal found the foot of Jamie Chamberlain (London, England; Dover Athletic Academy) and was laced right into the net to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

"Man, what a goal that was that Jamie scored on the volley," said Gallant. "The keeper never saw it and he didn't have a chance to save it."

Durron Myers (Gulfport) found the net for the first time in his collegiate career not long after. The Co-Lin keeper made a save, but the ball bounced right to Myers. He quickly headed it home to give PRCC a 2-0 lead.

Pearl River extended the lead to 3-0 before the half. Andre Nicholson (Kingston, Jamaica; Clarendon College) battled with a Co-Lin defender all the way down the left side of the pitch. After maintaining possession, Nicholson dribbled into the box and blasted a ball past the keeper.

Copiah-Lincoln was able to cut the deficit to just two goals right before the half to make the score 3-1.

Shortly after the second half began, a beautiful through ball from Samuel Lambert (Picayune; Pearl River Central) made it around a defender and found Ryley Smith (Manchester, England; Castlebrook), who tapped the ball in to extend the lead, 4-1.

Chamberlain netted his second goal of the day, squeezing a free-kick past the diving CLCC keeper giving him a brace and making the score 5-1.

Diego Rangel (D'Iberville) bagged his first goal of the season, smashing it past the keeper on the far side of the net, giving Pearl River a 6-1 lead.
