Pearl River men’s soccer standout signs with Florida Atlantic

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — After an incredible career in the maroon-and-gold, Pearl River men's soccer's Alex Emery (Gulfport; West Harrison) has signed to continue his soccer career at Florida Atlantic.

"This is an amazing opportunity that Alex has earned for himself," Pearl River coach Drew Gallant said. "He was a major part of our programs run to three finals appearances in a row. While Alex suffered a season-ending injury as a freshman, he bounced back for a big second season. Alex really stepped up for us in his third season and put up impressive numbers.

"He's worked very hard on and off the field and we can't wait to see what he does at FAU."

Emery has been an extremely versatile option for Pearl River since his freshman season in the spring 2021 season. Before suffering an injury, Emery managed to score three goals and assist on one more in just six games played.

Emery came back during his sophomore season and was an instrumental part of the Wildcats advancing to their first National Tournament in history. Seeing time at numerous positions, Emery scored four goals and assisted on seven more. His seven assists that season tied for first on the team. The incredible year earned him a Second Team All-MACCC selection.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Emery earned an additional year of eligibility and made the most of it in 2022, upping his production to 13 goals and five assists. His 13 goals tied for first on the team and fourth in the conference. He scored a brace in three games on the season.

Emery had several important moments during the season, but there was arguably none bigger than his two-goal performance against Itawamba. Despite the Wildcats going down 2-0 early in the game, Emery scored a pair of goals in the second half to lift Pearl River to a 3-2 victory.

Emery earned MACCC Player of the Week and NJCAA Player of the Week once during the 2022 season and was named First Team All-MACCC and All-Region 23 after the year concluded.
