No. 20 Pearl River drops road contest against Hinds

RAYMOND, Miss. — The No. 20 Pearl River men's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday and dropped a hard-fought match 1-0 to Hinds.

RECAP
The ball rarely left the midfield in the first half of play as Pearl River (1-2 overall) and Hinds (3-0) continuously fought for possession. After 45 hard-fought minutes, the squads entered the midway point locked in a 0-0 draw.

Pearl River nearly capitalized on a set-piece just a few minutes into the second half. The ball rattled around before being cleared. The Wildcats grabbed back possession and sent the ball out wide to Jason Irias (D'Iberville), but his shot was saved by the Hinds goalkeeper.

Hinds grabbed the lead in the 55th minute. A ball was served into the box on a free kick and fell just in front of the goal. An Eagle player rushed forward and smashed the ball home to push the Eagles ahead 1-0.

In the 70th minute, Noah Nymark (Farsø, Denmark; Handelsgymnasiet Turoegade) kept the Eagles off the board when he rushed out to punch away a threatening cross.

Pearl River had another chance in the 85th minute with a corner-kick opportunity. The Wildcats opted to play the ball short rather than into the box and the Eagles quickly put a stop to the threat before it could result in anything.

The Wildcats controlled possession of the ball for much of the second half but could not get a goal back, falling 1-0.
