SUMMIT, Miss. — No. 20 Pearl River men's soccer team lost a tough road match, 2-0, against Southwest in Summit on Friday.

RECAP

The Wildcats (1-3 overall) controlled the ball early and applied pressure in the first half against Southwest (3-0).

By keeping possession and controlling the attack Pearl River kept the ball on Southwest's side of the field early on.

Southwest took advantage of a heat time out to change momentum. At the 24th minute mark, Southwest had a free kick near midfield. The Bear player sent the free kick into the penalty box, and a Southwest player finished with a header on goal to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats applied pressure late in the half, with their best chance coming on a Christopher Dommer (Copenhagen, Denmark.; Øregård Gymnasium) shot. Dommer received a pass at the top of the penalty area, keeping the ball as he traveled along the top of the penalty box and sending a low shot on goal, forcing the keeper to dive to his left to stop it.

The Bears applied pressure early in the second half. PRCC started to maintain possession of the ball as the second half continued, building possessions from the back line. Pearl River pressured the Bear defense but struggled to find clean shots on goal.

Southwest's offense started to gain momentum in the final third of the second half, forcing Wildcat keeper Noah Nymark (Farsoe, Denmark; Handelsgymnasiet Turoegadeinto a diving save on a shot from outside the box in the 73rd minute.
Pearl River had a chance in the 79th minute when Joel Morales (Gulfport) found Noah Fazel (
Vaerloese, Denmark; Gladsaxe Gymnasium) in the box. Fazel's shot missed just left of the goal.

Southwest scored an insurance goal in the 85th minute from a shot right outside the box.
