Pearl River men return to winning ways at East Mississippi

SCOOBA, Miss. — The Pearl River men's soccer team bounced back in a big way Tuesday night as they went on the road and picked up an impressive 4-0 victory over East Mississippi.

"I am pleased with tonight's effort. We looked really good, especially going forward," head coach Drew Gallant said. "I thought we created lots of chances, but our finishing still needs lots of work. It was probably the best we've looked so far."

GAME RECAP
Pearl River (2-4 overall; 1-1 MACCC) wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as the Wildcats struck for a goal in the 8th minute of the night. PRCC won possession of the ball, and Tiago Honorio Jr. (São Paulo, Brazil; Zacarias Antônio da Silva) moved it up the pitch. The forward quickly sent a cross along the ground to find Christopher Dommer (Copenhagen, Denmark; Øregård Gymnasium) in the middle of the pitch for a tap-in goal and a 1-0 advantage.

The Wildcats developed a few more opportunities down the stretch, but nothing materialized as they went into the midway point with a slim lead.

The 55th minute saw PRCC double its advantage. Noah Fazal (Værløse, Denmark; Gladsaxe Gymnasium) played a ball to Honorio Jr., who spun, hit the ball with the outside of his foot, and caught the goalkeeper off guard with the shot for the goal.

"Tiago is just an absolute game-changer," Gallant said. "It's incredible having him up front. He is a man."

Dommer claimed his brace in the 65th minute. A ball bounced out to the top of the box for the midfielder, and on his first touch, he mashed it into the back of the net, 3-0.

Noah Webb (Pearl) picked up his first career goal in the 85th minute, and what a goal it was, sending a shot from over 20 yards out and into the back of the net to cap the scoring at 4-0.

"His first goal as a Wildcat. It was a goal of a lifetime situation," Gallant said. "Hopefully, he's got some more of those in him. It was a great goal from Noah. The movement, the dip, and how he hit it were special. The keeper had no chance."
