Pearl River men fight for draw at Itawamba

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River men's soccer team hit the road on Tuesday and battled its way to a 1-1 draw at Itawamba.

"Itawamba is very good. It's always a really, really hard place to play," head coach Drew Gallant said. "It's one of the most difficult places to come to. We obviously wanted to come away with a win, but we didn't leave empty handed with the draw.

"We switched off for five minutes at the start of the second half and conceded. It kind of shocked us a little. We went away from the things we normally do. We'll need to watch film and see where things went wrong in the second half."

MATCH RECAP
Tiago Honorio Jr. (São Paulo, Brazil; Zacarias Antônio da Silva) gave the Wildcats (2-4-2 overall; 1-1-2 MACCC) the lead in the 22nd minute of the evening. The freshman dribbled by a pair of Itawamba (6-3-1; 3-0-1) defenders before firing a left-footed shot along the ground into the right side of the net, 1-0.

Itawamba evened things up in the 50th as a forward dribbled through the Wildcat backline and sent a ball into the net, 1-1.

In the 71st minute, Christoper Domer (Copenhagen, Denmark; Øregård Gymnasium) bent a shot from outside the box toward the goal but it was saved by the Indian goalkeeper.

The 73rd minute saw Noah Nymark (Farsoe, Denmark; Handelsgymnasiet Turoegade) make an incredible save, coming out to and flailing to his right to get his foot on a shot attempt and send it out of bounds.

"Noah was really good today. He had some big saves," Gallant said. "I have been really pleased with his performance over the last couple of days. He stood out today."
