Pearl River men win final road contest of the regular season

WESSON, Miss. — The Pearl River men's soccer team hit the road for the final time this season Friday afternoon and came away with an important victory against Copiah-Lincoln, 3-1.

The victory helps Pearl River maintain a host position in the upcoming Region 23 Quarterfinals

"We had a good first half. We created some good chances and had some good saves," head coach Drew Gallant said. "That's another really well-coach team that we played, and this is probably the toughest place to play. I'm really happy to get out of here with a win."

SCORING SUMMARY
Pearl River (7-4-3 overall; 6-1-3 MACCC) bagged its first goal of the afternoon 14 minutes into the contest. Midfielder Noah Fazal (Vaerloese, Denmark; Gladsaxe Gymnasium) chipped a pass into the box for Tiago Honorio Jr. (São Paulo, Brazil; Zacarias Antônio da Silva), who slotted it into the goal on his first touch, 1-0.

In the 35th minute, the Wildcats' lead grew to 2-0. Joel Morales (Gulfport) fired a shot that was saved by the CLCC (4-6-5; 3-4-3) goalkeeper and rebounded back to the feet of Christopher Dommer (Copenhagen, Denmark; Øregård Gymnasium). The attacking midfielder was ready for it and tapped the ball into the back of the net on his first touch.

PRCC continued to apply the pressure for the remaining 10 minutes in the half but couldn't scratch across any more goals, heading into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The Wolves made the Wildcats sweat a bit in the 66th minute, cutting the deficit in half with a goal, 2-1, but PRCC responded just one minute later. Jason Irias (D'Iberville) had the ball and forced a few CLCC defenders to rush his way. He quickly scanned the pitch and found Honorio Jr. for the freshman's second goal of the day, 3-1.

"Jason did a good job of drawing the defenders and driving across goal," Gallant said. "Tiago's off-ball movement was really good, and Jason found him with a pass."
