Pearl River women earn third in first rodeo of 2023-24

MARSHALL, Mo. — The Pearl River rodeo team kicked off the 2023-24 season with a bang over at the Missouri Valley College rodeo. In tough conditions, the women's team racked up 240 points to earn third place overall, and the men's team earned 50 points for a ninth-place finish.

"The girls were really good on the weekend. I was really happy with their performance," head coach Frank Graves said. "We had a really big rain come in on Saturday that made the arena conditions really bad. That really hurt our men's team. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good first rodeo of the year."

WEEKEND RECAP
Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.) made the most of her Pearl River debut, earning a first-overall finish in breakaway roping. The freshman pulled off a time of 2.3 in the first round and a 2.7 in the second round. She earned 170 points.

"She's really talented. She's a high school All-Around World Champion, so she's going to be really big for us this year," Graves said. "I have high expectations for her. She was great in the breakaway. She also competed in goat tying, but she had a bad goat and ended up not making the shortgo. She's going to be really good in two events for us this year."

Erin McLaughlin (Bunnell, Fla.) earned a fourth-place finish in her first PRCC rodeo. She had a 7.0 time in the first round of goat tying and a 10.9 in the second round to finish with an average of 17.9. She earned 70 points.

On the men's side, Bryson Crawford (LaBella, Fla.) competed as an individual and earned fourth place in calf roping. He registered times of 14.9 and 11.3, respectively, to earn 80 points.

Freshman duo Cole Lansford (Fayetteville, Ala.) and Cayden Roland (Fayetteville, Ala.) placed fourth overall in team roping. In the first round, they had a time of 6.7, followed by a 13.5 in the second round. They earned 120 points as individuals.

Blake Lyons (Ethel, La.; Silliman Institute) roped with West Alabama's Gordon Clarke. They registered a 7.1 in the first round but earned no time in the second.

Trevor Delee (Saint Francisville, La.) joined up with Tyler Lovererne of West Alabama. The first round saw them earn a time of 7.7. They did not register a time in the second.

Brodie Maddox (Wetumpka, Ala.; Elmore) had a successful go in the first round of steer wrestling with a time of 7.6, but he didn't register anything in the second.
