POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team hosted a successful home rodeo at the Pearl River County Fairgrounds as both the men's and women's teams earned a fifth-place finish. The men collected 240 points, and the women tallied 180.

"We've struggled a little bit to finish it off lately. We've had several do really well in the first round, but they don't have the best luck in the short-go," head coach Frank Graves said. "It's hard to win at your home rodeo, so we did pretty well overall. We're going to try to finish up strong down the stretch."

Graves talked about hosting the home event.

"I think we may have had our best attendance yet. We had a really good weekend," he said. "Everything went smoothly. Our announcer and rodeo clown were both really good. I was extremely happy with it. The support that we had from the community was awesome."

MEN'S RESULTS
Pearl River had numerous athletes make it to the championship round on the men's team. In calf roping, Tate Joiner (Husser, La.) earned third place for 100 points. He opened the weekend with an 11.4 second time in the first round and an 11.7 in the championship round to get it done.

Joiner also advanced to the championship round in steer wrestling. He began the event by snatching a time of 7.3 seconds and followed it with a time of 10.3, finishing eighth overall.

Jake White (Albany, La.) and Birch Harvey (Beaver Springs, Pa.; Midd-West) each advanced to the championship round in steer wrestling but could not register any points.

In team roping, Lane Daniel (Cullman, Ala.) and Cole Lansford (Childersburg, Ala.) left the weekend with a fifth-place finish. The duo narrowly made the championship round with a time of 23.1 but responded with a time of 13.1 in the second round, earning 60 points apiece.

Trenton Davis (Poplarville) teamed with Tennessee-Martin's Kolby Krieger in the event. Despite the pair taking a time of 13.8 seconds in round one, they couldn't earn a time in the short-go.

Pearl River's Jay Rodrigue (Thibodaux, La.) won bull riding. The freshman earned a score of 84 in his first ride to take the crown, earning 120 points.

"Jay did really well again for the second week in a row," Graves said. "I've been waiting on it since I recruited him. I knew he was a good one — he's had a rough time lately."

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Karrigan Cagley (Kentwood, La.) and Molli Rae Kinchen (Tickfaw, La.) each advanced to the championship round in breakaway roping. Cagley turned in a blazing time of 2.8 seconds to win the first round, and Kinchen followed with a three-second run to sit in fourth heading into the championship round.

Cagley's four-second short-go run made her second overall, earning 115 points. Kinchen had a slip-up in her second round, earning a time of 12.8 seconds to move her into a tie for fifth at 65 points.
