PRCC's Jay Rodrigue, Kate Eiland qualify for College National Finals Rodeo

SENATOBIA, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team wrapped up the 2024-25 season, participating in the Northwest Mississippi rodeo. The women's team earned a fourth-place finish, and the men's team did not place.

Following a solid season, a pair of Wildcats were named the Ozark Region Reserve Champions. Jay Rodrigue (Thibodaux, La.) took the crown in bull riding, and Kate Eiland (Kentwood, La.) won the title in breakaway roping. The duo qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo June 15-21 in Casper, Wyoming.

"Jay is an outstanding talent. He just got off to a bad start and got into a slump," head coach Frank Graves said. "When he came back this semester, he broke out of the slump and was really good. He can win a National Championship if he draws the right bulls."

For Eiland, this will be her second CNFR after making it a season ago.

"She's a super talent. She has had the feel after being out there last year," Grave said. "She has a chance to make some noise and win a title, too. I'm really excited about going out there this year."

WEEKEND RESULTS
Eiland was electric in goat tying, earning first place in the event. She had blazing times of 6.5 and 6.6 seconds to finish with a combined time of 13.1. Her efforts earned her 170 points.

Erin McLaughlin (Bunnell, Fla.) made the championship round with an opening ride of 4.2 seconds in breakaway roping. Unfortunately, she did not register a time in the championship round.

The team roping duo of Zane Pittman (Beaumont) and Cayden Roland (Childersburg, Ala.; Fayetteville) got off to a hot start with a 7.5-second opening round. Although they were in first heading into the championship round, they couldn't register a time in the second round.
