POPLARVILLE, Miss. — No. 14 Pearl River's Natalee Eaves (Louisville; Choctaw Central) tore the cover off the softball last week, and her efforts have earned her the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference's Player of the Week award.
The selection makes it back-to-back weeks for the Wildcats to have to conference's Player of the Week award as Cailey Pervel (Carriere; Pearl River Central) took home the honor a week ago. Additionally, PRCC's Ana-Grace Garcia (Baton Rouge, La.; St. Joseph's) won the MACCC's Pitcher of the Week award this week, marking a sweep in the weekly awards.
It was next to impossible for opposing teams to get Eaves out last week as the freshman went 9-for-14 at the plate for a .643 batting average. She finished her incredible four-game stretch with six RBIs, five runs, one homer, one triple and one double. She stole four bags along the way. She started the week 3-for-4 with three RBIs against Meridian. In the second game, she was 2-for-3 with a run driven in. In the opener against Itawamba, she had one hit before going 3-for-3 with a long ball in the nightcap.
Eaves has been a reliable part of the Wildcat order from the start of the season. She currently ranks second on the Wildcats in batting average (.410), doubles (9) and RBIs (31). She's also swiped 18 bags — good enough for third on the team. She also has hit five triples, scored 33 runs and walked 12 times.
