POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Following another highly successful regular season for the No. 18 Pearl River softball team, the Wildcats now know their postseason destination and opponents.
The Wildcats will head to the Jones College regional in Ellisville beginning on May 2. The Wildcats have earned the No. 6 seed and will match up with No. 3 seed LSU Eunice Friday at 6 p.m. The No. 2 seed and host of the tournament, Jones College, will take on the winner of the play-in game which features No. 7 Gulf Coast and No. 10 seed East Mississippi.
Tickets can be purchased for $12 at JCBobcats.com/watch or $15 cash-only at the gate. A weekend pass can be purchased online for $35. The games will also be livestreamed at JCBobcats.com/watch.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats will enter the tournament with a 34-15 overall record and earned the No. 6 seed after an 18-8 finish in the MACCC.
Freshman Natalee Eaves (Louisville; Choctaw Central) leads PRCC in hitting with a .411 batting average. She's second on the team in RBIs (36) and doubles (11). She has also added five triples and two homers. Kai Goodman (New Orleans, La.; John Curtis) is second on the team in hitting with a .399 batting average. She has stolen a Pearl River single-season record 48 bases and drown 20 walks. Team captain Caroline Lindsey (Gulfport) leads the team in RBIs (44), home runs (12) and doubles (13).
Ana-Grace Garcia (Baton Rouge, La.; St. Joseph's) has led the way in the circle for PRCC, throwing 122 innings and holding a 2.75 ERA. She has punched out 152 batters, and her WHIP is 1.16. Lizzie Meeks (Ripley; Pine Grove) has come on strong for the Wildcats. She now has thrown 75 innings and has a 1.49 ERA.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS
The Bengals earned the No. 3 seed by having the third-highest Massey Rating in Region 23 after going 40-10 on the season. Payton Prince is the leading Bengal hitter with a .379 batting average, 44 RBIs, nine doubles and 13 homers.
LSU Eunice has used four pitchers frequently, with Reagan Rios throwing 87 1/3 innings, Ava Kordish throwing 85 1/3, Alyssa Boutte tossing 50 and Erika Savage adding 48. Rios has a team-best 2.40 ERA, and Kordish has a 2.71. Rios has struck out 55 batters, and Kordish has added 39.
