Pearl River women are big winners heading into winter break
NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Pearl River Lady Wildcats bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon when they defeated ASA College (Miami) 72-50 at Northwest Florida State's tournament.

PRCC head coach Scottie Fletcher was excited to see his team play with explosiveness.

"Our girls bounced back. They're a special group," Fletcher said. "Road wins are not easy to come by, no matter who you play, so I'm pleased with how our girls performed."

The Lady Wildcats (6-2) started well and took an early lead at the end of the first quarter up 19-16.

ASA bounced back, however, and tied the game 30-30 heading into halftime.

Pearl River took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter up 49-45.

The Lady Wildcats would come alive in the final frame, ending the game with a 72-50 victory. In doing so, PRCC held the Silver Storm to only five points in the final frame of the contest.

One of the key reasons for the Lady Wildcats' success was due to the dominant play of sophomore Elexis Peyton (Jackson; Provine), who accounted for 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Fletcher was impressed with the effort Peyton put into the victory.

"Elexis did great tonight. She scored and got boards. She was efficient tonight," Fletcher said.

The Lady Wildcats also had some key contributions from Mychala "Pooh" Linzy (Clinton) who netted 13 points in the contest.

"Pooh was good tonight. She just kept making shots," Fletcher said.

The victory marked PRCC's final game of the fall semester.
