POPLARVILLE, Miss. — For the second season in a row, Pearl River women's basketball head coach Scotty Fletcher has been tabbed the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference's Coach of the Year.
"It's a truly a great honor for our program, institution, players and staff when you receive post-season awards such as MACCC Coach of the Year," Fletcher said. "I have been extremely blessed with a championship staff, President, administration and players. These players have cemented this team's legacy with their daily discipline, leading to another championship season for an elite group of selfless young women. This award directly reflects their commitment to one another while allowing me to share a vision for our program that everyone would benefit from as our quest for another championship season was accomplished.
"This team will be remembered for their elite focus and supreme leadership as we had a player-lead team. I'm extremely grateful for the front-row seat daily, witnessing a team that was always committed to one another."
Fletcher wins the award after guiding Pearl River to its fourth consecutive 20-win season, back-to-back MACCC Championships and a third MACCC crown in the last four seasons. PRCC's four consecutive 20-win seasons is a first in program history.
The Wildcats wrapped up the 2024-25 campaign with a 25-3 record, including a 13-1 mark in MACCC play. The Wildcats were ranked in every edition of the NJCAA polls and climbed as high as No. 11 nationally.
Pearl River was one of the top defensive teams in the country under Fletcher's guidance, ranking third nationally in points allowed per game (45.8), third in opponent field-goal percentage (30%) and fourth in opponent assists per game (7). The Wildcats also got it done offensively, ranking 19th in free throw attempts per game (21.4), 20th in free throw percentage (71.5%) and 21st in offensive rebounds per game (16.4).
Five of PRCC's players were already named All-MACCC, marking the most selections in a season in Fletcher's tenure. Jazmine Jackson (Jacksonville, Fla.; Andrew Jackson) earned First Team. Natasha Barnes (Chicago, Ill.; Kenwood Academy), Paris Gilmore (Youngstown, Ohio; Warrensville Heights) and Mikayla Riley (Tupelo) were Second Team.
