Long-time PRCC coach Scotty Fletcher named Louisiana-Monroe head coach

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Long-time Pearl River Community College women's basketball coach Scotty Fletcher will see Division I dreams come true, departing the program for the same position at Louisiana-Monroe, the University announced Fletcher's hiring Friday afternoon.

"I grew up on a dirt road with a basketball in one hand and a dream in the other. I arrived on this campus as an eager 18-year-old set out to fulfill my dream of playing college basketball," head coach Scotty Fletcher said. "This community welcomed me with open arms. I returned as head coach on a mission to pay back Pearl River for the impact it made on me personally and professionally. It starts at the top with a President whose leadership is aligned with incredible support, which allowed us to make history together and return the championship mentality that separates this place from its peers.

"When you have the right people in place, that place becomes special, and you can make special memories together. Thank you will never be enough for a place that helped raise me and allowed me to share a vision for us to all win together. It was a true honor to win multiple championships as a player, coach, athletic director, assistant athletic director, while earning an At-Large bid to the National Tournament. The bands, fans cheerleaders and spirit team were crucial to our success as well. Thank you Wildcats!

"I am forever grateful for each and every player who wore the maroon and gold during our time together and the impact you made on this program," Fletcher added. "To my staff and assistant coaches that believed in me, thank you for your unwavering support and loyalty. To my colleagues and our athletics teams that supported us, you made Marvin R. White Coliseum the best home court atmosphere in the country. There's no place like the River. I'm a Wildcat for life."

"Coach Fletcher has been a vital member of our PRCC family for many years. We are grateful for the exceptional work he has done with our women's basketball program and his commitment to fostering our campus community," Pearl River Community College President Dr. Adam Breerwood said. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors and eagerly anticipate his continued success. He will be greatly missed."

"We want to congratulate Coach Fletcher for this opportunity," Executive Vice President for Student Services Jeff Long said. "He's worked diligently to raise the standard of our program to a championship level. We appreciate his hard work and dedication. Coach Fletcher will always be a Wildcat."

"What Coach Fletcher and his staff have achieved at PRCC is truly special. When I first arrived at Pearl River, I remember us being excited to qualify for the postseason and to send a handful of student-athletes to the next level," Director of Athletics Patrick Ochs said. "Fast forward to today: We're fresh off of achieving three MACCC titles in four years and he has built a steady pipeline for Wildcats to the NCAA. Coach Fletcher is proof that if you work hard, have faith in your process and prioritize the right things, you can achieve anything.

"I wish Coach Fletcher and his family the best of luck in Monroe. I know he will lead the Warhawks with the same integrity and dedication that built the Wildcats into the program we have today."

A true program-builder, Fletcher has been at the helm of Pearl River for 10 seasons and compiled a 164-75 (.686) record, leaving PRCC as the second-winningest head coach in program history. In the last four seasons alone, PRCC was 98-17 (.852). Fletcher built the program from the ground up. The Wildcats went from 6-16 in his first season in 2015-16 to an incredible 25-3 in his final season at the helm of the Wildcats. He led Pearl River to MACCC Championships in 2022, 2024 and 2025. His 2024 Wildcats earned an at-large bid to the NJCAA Tournament. It was PRCC's first berth in the tournament since 2003. Fletcher was named Co-MACCC Coach of the Year in 2024 after going 13-1 and won the award outright in 2025 after another 13-1 finish. Fletcher has sent numerous players to the four-year level, including players to St. Louis, Appalachian State and DePaul. Several members of his 2024-25 roster set to make decisions soon.

Fletcher's teams were consistently among the best in the country on defense. In 2024-25, the Wildcats were third nationally in points allowed per game (45.8), third in opponent field-goal percentage (30%) and fourth in opponent assists per game (7). His 2023-24 team was first in the country in points allowed per game (45.8), fifth in steals per game (14.7) and 16th in opponent field goal percentage (33.8%).
