POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River soccer standout Sarah Havens (Hurley; East Central) is headed to the next level after recently signing with the Mississippi University for Women.
Havens' signature reunites her with former PRCC coach Jack Byrd, who recently took over the Owls program.
"I'm really excited to get the opportunity to team up with Coach Byrd for two more years," Havens said during Thursday's signing ceremony.
A reliable offensive threat for PRCC in both of her seasons at The River, Havens took her game to another level as a sophomore. After netting three goals and two assists as a freshman in 2017, the 5-foot-5 forward scored two goals and added four assists this season.
Havens' biggest performance of the year came in the first round of the MACJC Tournament where the Hurley native netted a goal and assisted on the Lady Wildcats' other goal as PRCC eliminated Itawamba 2-1 in Fulton.
"Sarah was brilliant for us. She played a number of positions for us. She could play at forward attacking midfield or on the wing coming in and shooting. Her best attribute was definitely her finishing with her power," Pearl River assistant coach Tom Keen said of Havens, who was a MACJC All-Star selection.
Because of her strength on the ball, Keen said he saw a big jump in her distribution as a sophomore.
"She did a good job from the attacking midfield position of holding the ball up with her back to goal and then playing in the faster players," he said.
