FULTON, Miss. — Pearl River's women's soccer team stumbled for the first time in 2019 on Tuesday, falling at Itawamba 1-0.

"I thought we started out well and created a couple of chances. Itawamba is a good team. They're organized and good on the counter. They caught us one time on a giveaway in the first half and we didn't track back fast enough," Pearl River coach Henrik Madsen said. "They worked really hard it was just an off day. Credit Itawamba. They didn't make it easy on us."

ICC (8-3) opened the scoring 26 minutes into the match on a cross in the box.

Pearl River (5-1-2) had a prime chance late in the first half as Jade Shaw (Carriere; Pearl River Central) darted past ICC's defense down the left side before laying the ball off for Maddie Beets (Long Beach). The Pearl River striker attempted to dance around ICC's keeper, but was forced off balance as the ball rolled out of bounds.

The Indians seemed to dominate possession in the second half and never really let Pearl River get in on the attack.

Paige Horsnell (London; England) came up big late in the contest, stoning an ICC attacker who was in alone on a breakaway. The PRCC keeper charged out of her net and then turned away the shot with her right hand.
