MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Pearl River Wildcats got off to a slow start but didn't look back Tuesday night when they defeated Meridian 9-1.
The Wildcats (6-1-2 overall, 5-0 South) put on an offensive show after giving up the first goal of the game to Meridian (2-9-1 overall, 1-4 South) in the first minute of the game.
"I thought we had a bad start giving up that first goal in the first couple of minutes but I thought they responded really well," PRCC coach Henrik Madsen said.
The Wildcats responded in the 19th minute when Victoria Stewart (Pearl River, La; Pearl River) scored on a wide open shot to tie the game 1-1.
Briana Carr (Laurel; West Jones) put the Wildcats up 2-1 in the 24th minute.
Zigi Ahortor (Accra, Ghana; Wesley) followed that up with a goal in the 28th minute to put PRCC up 3-1.
Laura Magleau (Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Colegio Sao Miguel Arcanjo) scored a goal two minutes later to give the Wildcats a 4-1 lead.
Ahortor scored her second goal of the night shortly after Magleau's goal.
Stewart scored her second and third goals of the night to give the Wildcats a 7-1 lead and secure a hat trick.
Brooke Geist (Saucier; West Harrison) added on to the lead to put the Wildcats up 8-1.
