Pearl River cruises past Copiah-Lincoln

WESSON, Miss. — The Pearl River women's soccer team scored goals galore in Friday's 5-1 defeat of Copiah-Lincoln.

Pearl River (4-2-1 overall; 4-1 MACCC South) quickly got on the scoreboard to take a 1-0 advantage over Copiah-Lincoln (0-5; 0-4). A shot by a Wildcat player went just wide, hitting the right post. A perfect bounce put the ball directly at the feet of Tylee McCann (Leakesville; Greene County), who swiftly kicked the ball right into the left side of the goal.

The Wildcats soon doubled their advantage. Pearl River pushed the ball down the left side of the field deep into Co-Lin territory. A pass back into the middle of the field was tracked down by Briana Carr (Laurel; West Jones) and smashed home to make the PRCC lead 2-0.

Early into the second half, Jade Shaw (Carriere; Pearl River Central) hit the crossbar with a shot. Luckily, Carr was there to drill the ball home, giving her a brace and extending the lead to 3-0.

The Wildcats added two more goals later in the second half. Makenzie Ezell (Ocean Springs) lined up to take a free-kick from 25 yards out and booted a beautiful ball into the top left corner of the goal making the score 4-0. Ezell struck again just minutes later to make the score 5-0. A well-placed corner kick to the far side of the goal was headed home to give her a brace.

Co-Lin was able to break the shutout bid late into the contest picking up a goal on a penalty kick, making the final score 5-1.
