Pearl River women's soccer sends 7 to next level

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River women's soccer team is sending seven Wildcats to the next level to continue their soccer careers. The outgoing class is the largest under the direction of head coach Henrik Madsen.

This year's class includes Louisiana-Lafayette signee Lauren Bennett (Long Beach), Palm Beach Atlantic signee Lucy Conway (Portsmouth, England), Belhaven signee Ally Davis (Hattiesburg), William Carey signee Aníta Guðmundsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland.; Flensborg), Belhaven signee Katie Havard (Hurley; East Central), Dalton State signee Laney Owen (Gulfport) and Belhaven signee Jenny Satcher (Hattiesburg).

The signing class was instrumental in the program's impressive 22-8-4 two-year overall record and helped the program climb as high as ninth in the NJCAA.

"This is one of our biggest goals. We want to send as many to the next level as we can," Pearl River coach Henrik Madsen said. "They came in and worked really hard for two years and accomplished what they set out to do. I think they set the bar high with their training, work ethic and in the classroom."

LAUREN BENNETT
Bennett made her presence known on the Wildcat backline that held opponents to a .59 goals-against average. Bennett played in 17 games with 16 starts, scoring three goals and adding one assist.

At season's end, she was named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and an NJCAA Second Team All-American.

LUCY CONWAY
Conway was a consistent presence for the Wildcat midfield in her two years with the program playing in 27 games and starting nine during her career. Conway saw her biggest contributions occur in 2022, starting seven games, scoring five goals and assisting on three.

ALLY DAVIS
Davis was a mainstay on the Wildcat front line for the past two seasons. Davis played in 31 games, starting nine during her career. Her six assists in 2022 tied her for the team lead. For her career, Davis scored five goals and tallied seven assists.

ANÍTA GUÐMUNDSDÓTTIR
Guðmundsdóttir's career was one of the best on record for the Wildcat soccer program. The goalkeeper started in 28 of 29 career games played, recording a minuscule .93 goals against average and a career save percentage of .847 with 12 clean sheets.

In 2021, Guðmundsdóttir was named to the All-Region and Second Team All-MACCC teams. Not to be outdone in 2022, Guðmundsdóttir was named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and an NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention.

KATIE HAVARD
Havard provided consistency in the Wildcat midfield, starting 42 games during her career. Havard recorded a career-high four assists in 2022, but she was always instrumental in the development of the Wildcat attack during her time with the program.

LANEY OWEN
Owen appeared in 21 games throughout her career at The River, starting eight. One of Owen's highlights as a Wildcat was her converted penalty kick in the 53rd minute of the Region 23 Tournament against Co-Lin, propelling PRCC into the semifinals.

JENNY SATCHER
Satcher is the definition of the saying that hard work pays off. Originally joining the soccer program for the 2020-21 season, she suffered an injury that forced her to miss the entirety of her first two years at Pearl River. After fully recovering ahead of the 2022 season, she provided a spark off the bench for the Wildcats in 2022, scoring two goals and assisting on two more. Satcher played whichever position she was asked to as she even logged 45 minutes and made three saves at goalkeeper.
