No. 8 Pearl River continues goal-scoring barrage against Hinds

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Just a few days since scoring an incredible 13 goals, the No. 8 Pearl River women's soccer team continued its goal-scoring barrage in a match against Hinds. The Wildcats dominated throughout, winning the match 7-0 Friday evening at PRCC Soccer Complex.

"It was important for us to stay unbeaten in the conference going into a tough week against Itawamba and Holmes," head coach Henrik Madsen said. "I thought defensively, we were very good once again. We moved the ball well and scored a couple of really nice goals."

MATCH RECAP
It only took two minutes for Pearl River (7-1 overall; 3-0 MACCC) to take the lead. Frederikke Nielsen (Spentrup, Denmark; Randers Statsskole) received a pass just outside of the box and bent a shot into the top right corner of the net to take the lead, 1-0.

Nielsen made it a brace in the 12th minute. PRCC held possession of the ball before quickly sliding a pass over to the middle of the field for Nielsen, who tapped it home, 2-0.

Pearl River nearly added a third goal in the 40th minute as Ally Stiglets (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) received a pass outside of the box and went for goal on her first touch, but the Hinds keeper saved the shot. Three minutes later, Jessica Lawrence (Ocean Springs) nearly cashed in on an attempt. Following a strong cross by Ann Maris Ragan (Flowood; Hartfield Academy), Lawrence got a touch on the ball, but it was too soft and went just to the left of the goal.

Adele Mooney (Lafayette, La.; Ascension Episcopal) increased the lead to 3-0 five minutes into the second half, slashing home a shot following a scramble in front of the goal.

Stiglets made sure to finish off her next chance. PRCC earned a set-piece opportunity, and upon the delivery into the box, the Wildcat forward dashed in and headed the ball into the back of the net, 4-0.

Nielsen earned her hat trick in the 72nd minute, 5-0. The center forward received a pass just inside the box, chested it down, controlled it, and smashed it past the Hinds keeper.

The 80th minute saw Jessica Lawrence (Ocean Springs) snag her second goal of the season to increase the lead to 6-0. Chloe Ezell (Ocean Springs) started the play by finding a sprinting Emily Taylor (Laurel; Homeschool) flying down the left side of the pitch. Taylor controlled the pass and instantly fired it to the center for Lawrence, who slotted it into the back of the net on her first touch.

Ragan tallied the final goal of the night for the Wildcats. Mooney had some solid hold-up play inside the box. When she looked up, Ragan was all alone outside of the box. Mooney passed out to her, and she instantly sent the ball past the goalkeeper, 7-0.
