No. 8 Pearl River falls at No. 1 Holmes

RIDGELAND, Miss. — The No. 8 Pearl River women's soccer team fell behind midway through the first half and couldn't claw back Friday afternoon against No. 1 Holmes, falling 5-0.

"We came in and played alright the first few minutes. We made a couple of mistakes, and they capitalized on it, so it was 2-0 at half," head coach Henrik Madsen said. "We came out in the second half and battled really hard, and I thought we played well for the first 20 minutes, then lost some steam.

"I think they were a little more aggressive than we were. They were a little more physical, and they had a lot of pace on the wings. We just kind of surrendered."

MATCH RECAP
Holmes (10-0 overall; 5-0 MACCC) scored for the first time in the 22nd minute and followed it up with another goal just four minutes later.

Neither team could get on the scoresheet over the next 19 minutes as the Bulldogs headed into halftime with the advantage.

Out of the break, Pearl River (7-3; 3-2) a switch was flipped for the Wildcats as they held HCC scoreless for 30 minutes. The Bulldogs broke through for a third goal in the 75th minute.
