Blundell was promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2024-25 school year.

Pearl River’s women’s soccer program bolstered its staff prior to the 2020-21 school year with the addition of Carl Blundell as its newest assistant. 

Blundell joins PRCC’s staff after previously coaching at his alma mater, Belhaven.

“We are very excited about having Carl join our staff. Carl’s knowledge of the game and his ability to coach goalkeepers is a big plus for us,” PRCC head coach Henrik Madsen said. “He also brings national championship experience from his time at Tyler CC and Belhaven University to our group.”

The York, England, native certainly has a championship pedigree after winning back-to-back national championships at Tyler Junior College in 2010 and ’11. Blundell wasn’t done winning after moving on to the four-year level. A standout goalkeeper for Belhaven, Blundell was instrumental in the Blazers’ 2012 National Championship. During the season, Blundell logged 1,922 minutes in goal, allowing just 20 goals for a 0.94 goals against average. He turned away 75 shots and posted a 17-4-1 record with eight clean sheets. He punctuated his junior season by making four saves in a 2-0 win over Mobile for the championship, earning a spot on the National Championship All-Tournament Team.

The following season, Blundell earned 15 wins with eight shutouts, posting a .97 GAA in 2,132 minutes. He made 72 saves during his senior season.

Following his playing career, Blundell stepped into the coaching ranks at Belhaven.

Now Blundell will join the Wildcats as they look to make another run in the MACJC.

“It’s going to be brilliant,” he said. “Obviously, playing in Mississippi at Belhaven I’ve known about the junior colleges in the area and Pearl River being one of the better ones so I was excited to get the opportunity to come here.”

Blundell said the transition was an easy one after initially meeting Madsen while playing for the second-year Wildcat coach at Port City F.C. Blundell had previously played for the Panama City Pirates before joining PCFC.

“During the summer I worked with Henrik a little bit at Port City and so when he gave me the chance to work with him again it was a no brainer, really,” Blundell said. “I’m looking forward to working with him and bringing some continued success to the team.”

Blundell will focus on goaltenders but will also assist in other tactical and day-to-day operations.
