Pearl River returns to winning form against Bevill State

POPLARVILLE, Miss.— With the exception of a slow first set, the Pearl River Wildcats volleyball team was dominant in their matchup against visiting Bevill State on Tuesday night, defeating the Bears 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 30-28, 25-19).

The win got the Wildcats (5-5) back to .500 after the squad lost two of its last three contests last week.

"I thought the girls played really well and played with a lot of grit," PRCC head coach Haley Chatham said. "I think the biggest confidence builder out of that match was the third set where we had to fight point for point.

"We haven't really been in that situation before and they proved it to themselves. They showed a lot of grit in that set."

Harleigh Lafontaine (Kiln; Hancock) was all over the court during the contest, saving the Wildcats in a handful of instances.

"My mindset as a player is to make sure that ball never touches the floor because it gives them a point," Lafontaine said. "I feel like if I lead by doing that it makes a big difference."
