Pearl River announces exciting 2023 campaign

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – In anticipation of building on their 2022 NJCAA Region 23 finals appearance, Pearl River volleyball coach Haley Chatham announced the Wildcats 2023 schedule on July 20. The 2023 Wildcats will host 10 matches in Shivers Gymnasium on PRCC's Poplarville campus.

The Wildcats are coming off a 23-13 2022 campaign, including a 5-3 mark against MACCC foes.

2023 SCHEDULE

The Wildcats will open with exhibition matches against William Carey and Pensacola State at William Carey on Aug. 11. 

PRCC will open the regular season with a three-game homestand hosting Coastal Alabama ­– East on Aug. 19, Coastal Alabama – South on Aug. 21 and Gadsden State on Aug. 23. 

Following the homestand, PRCC will hit the road, starting with a contest at Mississippi University for Women on Aug. 26. The Wildcats will travel to Belhaven on Aug. 29. The River will head to Pensacola to take on Pensacola State on Aug. 31 and participate in the Pensacola State College Tournament on Sept. 1-2.

Pearl River will return home on Sept. 5 to face Pensacola State before making the trip to Hanceville, Ala., to participate in the Wallace State Tournament on Sept. 8-9.  

The Wildcats return home on Sept. 11 for a doubleheader against Louisiana Christian and MUW. 

Pearl River will close out September with five of the next six contests on the road. The River will travel to Bishop State on Sept. 13 and Coastal Alabama – East on Sept. 18. The Wildcats will travel to Northeast on Sept. 20 for their first of two consecutive conference matchups before returning home to take on Itawamba on Sept. 26. Pearl River will travel to Lurleen B. Wallace to face Enterprise State and Lurleen B. Wallace in a doubleheader on Sept. 29. 

PRCC will face region foe Northwest on the road on Oct. 2 before returning home to play Bishop State on Oct. 5.

The Wildcats will travel to Coastal Alabama – South on Oct. 6 and host Northwest in a region contest on Oct. 9.

Pearl River will travel to Gadsden State on Oct. 12 before heading to Boaz, Ala. to participate in the Snead State Tournament on Oct. 13-14. 

The Wildcats host Northeast for Sophomore Night at Shivers Gym for the last home contest of the season on Oct. 16. 

Pearl River will travel to Fulton, Miss., on Oct. 18 to take on Itawamba in the final region contest and will close out the regular season at Louisiana Christian on Oct. 25.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS

PRCC will rely on a sophomore-laden team in 2023. Returning for the Wildcats are Natalie Bartholomew (Brandon), 358 kills for 2.80 per set average, Jolee Gibson (Brandon), who led the team in assists with 423 in 2022 and Sammie Smith (Biloxi; D'Iberville) with 233 kills.
