Hanceville, Ala. — The Pearl River volleyball team dropped their final two matches of the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Tournament hosted by Wallace State on Saturday. The Wildcats drew host Wallace State in the first match of the day, dropping the match to the host 3-0 (22-25, 13-25, 16-25). PRCC faced Lurleen B. Wallace in the day's second match, winning the first set before dropping three close sets, 3-1 (25-21, 25-27, 23-25, 20-25).

"We definitely could have been better today. There were some bright spots, but overall, we played flat and chaotic," PRCC head coach Haley Chatham. "Today, we lost points in the reactionary part of the game. We let a lot of balls hit the floor today after good swings and positive block touches because our reactions were late and nonexistent.

"That is something we will focus on and emphasize for our tri-match on Monday."

WALLACE STATE 3, PEARL RIVER 0

Pearl River (7-7 overall) battled hard in the first set against Wallace State (12-2), dropping the opener 25-22. The Wildcats overcame a five-point deficit mid-set to reduce the Lion lead to two, 24-22 before Wallace State secured the win.

Wallace State capitalized on early runs to win set two, 25-13 and set three, 25-16.

"We were able to be competitive with Wallace in the first set of the match, then expected the same results with a lower level of play for the next two sets," Chatham said.

LURLEEN B. WALLACE 3, PEARL RIVER 1

The Wildcats came out strong in the first set during the day's second match, defeating Lurleen B. Wallace (8-3), 25-21.

The Saints seized momentum midway through the second set and pulled out a 27-25 win.
The Wildcats fought hard but fell short in the remaining sets 25-23 and four 25-20.

"It seemed like we got Lurleen B. Wallace's number quickly and were able to stop them at the net early. Our reads were on, so our blocks were good with several stuffs and loads of touches," Chatham commented. "Usually, net play like that translates into points and wins."
