Pearl River volleyball concludes Snead State Invitational

BOAZ, Ala. — The Pearl River volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Wallace State and Snead State on day two of the Snead State Invitational, dropping the match against the Lions 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 12-15) and 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 21-25) against the Parsons.

"Even though the match finals didn't necessarily show it, we had a good, competitive showing this weekend in three of our four matches," head coach Haley Chatham said. "The set scores might give a better idea. The vast turnaround our group has shown since early September is evident, and everyone in the gym knew it this weekend."

Pearl River (9-20 overall) has upped its game significantly as the season has progressed.

"The volleyball is there, and I am confident in what we can physically do on the court now," Chatham said. "We are still working on that final piece of staying in it mentally when the situation is tough. I hope some of our kids decide to be a rock when we find ourselves in shaky situations in the final stretch of the season."

The Wildcats played some of their best volleyball of the year in the first two sets of the day against Wallace State (28-9), shocking the Lions with a 25-22 set one victory and a 25-17 victory in set two.

Just when the Wildcats looked as if they were in control, Wallace State rattled off three consecutive set victories to take the match 3-2.

Pearl River struggled to get going in the opening set against Snead State (20-13), dropping it 25-15. Pearl River played the Parsons much tighter in sets two and three, but SSCC grabbed a 25-18 set two win and followed it with a 25-21 victory in set three to secure the match.
