Pearl River football unveils road-heavy 2023 schedule

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The 2023 football season is right around the corner, and Pearl River head football coach Seth Smith is looking to build on the successful 2022 campaign. Smith recently announced the finalized 2023 schedule on Thursday.

Fresh off an impressive 6-3 campaign in '22, the Wildcats will host four home contests, including the annual "Cat Fight" against Jones College, and will travel for five games in 2023.

2023 SCHEDULE
The Wildcats open the season on the road on Sept. 7 as they travel to Goodman to take on Holmes. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

PRCC will return home to Dobie Holden Stadium on Sept. 14 to host the Northeast Tigers before traveling to Senatobia on Sept. 21 to face perennial power Northwest at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats host the Hinds Eagles on Sept. 28.

PRCC will make the short trip to Perkinston to face rival Gulf Coast on Oct. 5 for the first of two rival games. The Wildcats will host Jones in the annual "Cat Fight" on Oct. 12 before traveling to Wesson on Oct. 19 to play Copiah-Lincoln at 7 p.m.

PRCC will host Southwest for Homecoming on Oct. 26 before traveling to Decatur for the final regular season contest against East Central on Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

The first round of the MACCC playoffs is set for Nov. 11, with the MACCC championship slated for Nov. 18.

All home games are set for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Smith is heading into year four at the helm of the Wildcat program. The Wildcats finished the 2022 season with a 6-3 overall record and 4-2 in the MACCC. PRCC's six wins were the most since 2010, and the Wildcats narrowly missed out on the playoffs. Fifteen athletes from the 2022 squad signed with four-year programs, and Smith was named the MACCC South Division Coach of the Year.
