POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River football team has dipped into the transfer portal for its latest addition to the 2025 roster, adding Louisiana Monroe transfer quarterback Reese Mooney.
Mooney is currently a member of Pearl River's baseball team.
"We are extremely excited about the addition of Reese to our team. He was one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the country out of high school," head coach Seth Smith said. "He is an extremely talented athlete, playing both baseball and football here. He has great speed and size with an elite arm. By adding him to our quarterback room with the guys we have returning, we feel great about the position in 2025."
During high school, Mooney was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and ESPN.com. When his career at Denham Springs wrapped up, Mooney held 34 offers which included Alabama Birmingham, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida International, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Grambling State, Houston, Illinois, James Madison, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, Memphis, Miami, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Temple, Toledo, Troy, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Western Kentucky.
Mooney passed for 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He was selected to play in the Red Stick Bowl and named All-District and All-Parish at the season's end. He elected to sign with Liberty.
Mooney earned a redshirt at Liberty as a freshman. He spent 2024 at Louisiana-Monroe before becoming a two-sport athlete at Pearl River in January 2025.
