Ta'Ron Sims will enter his fifth season on the Wildcat staff in 2023 after being retained by Pearl River coach Seth Smith to lead the secondary.

Sims was originally hired by the former staff.

“Ta’Ron is extremely knowledgeable. The kids love him,” Smith said. “He’ll bring an added passion to the defense that will go hand-in-hand with everything coach Ty Trahan wants.”

Smith said having Sims’ experience on his staff will be invaluable.

“In January we’ll start the evaluation period so it’s great to have a guy from the last staff; someone who knows the kids, loves the kids and has a great wealth of knowledge that we can pull from. Beyond that, he’s just an excellent coach.”

Smith said he’s excited with how Trahan, Sims and defensive line coach Lorenzo Breland will lead the new PRCC defense.

“I think they will make a tremendous trio,” he said. “If we’re going to elevate this program back to championship standards, it will start on that side of the football.

“You can’t have a championship team without a championship defense.”

Sims is intrigued to see what the new-look Wildcat staff can achieve moving forward.

“I’m very fortunate and blessed to be a part of his staff. He’s a great, great, great fella,” Sims said. “One thing you notice about Seth immediately is his passion and fervor; his energy. He’s a juice man. I like that about him. He has a really strong personality.

“He brings a lot of leadership and comes from a winning tradition.”
