No. 9 Pearl River’s remarkable season ends in MACCC Tournament

ELLISVILLE, Miss. — It was nothing short of a magical season for the No. 9 Pearl River softball team. The Wildcats 2022 campaign came to an end Friday in Game 9 of the MACCC Tournament at Community Bank Park in Ellisville as they were defeated 7-1 by Northeast.

"We took another step this season in the postseason," head coach Christie Meeks said. "Last year we went two and out, but this year we won a game and had an opportunity to win another. We just let that slip."

"We want to thank all of our administration, media team, supporters, fans and family for always supporting us through the ups and downs. We really appreciate all of them."

The Wildcats accomplished a lot in Meeks' third season at the helm of the program, finishing the year with a 31-17 record and a 20-8 mark in MACCC play. PRCC's 31 wins were the most since the program won 30 games in the 2010 season.

Over the last two seasons, Pearl River boasts a 58-32 record.

Pearl River finished the season ranked among the top 10 teams in the country, coming in at No. 9. The Wildcats were featured in every edition of the NJCAA rankings this season and ranked as high as No. 7.

"I'm so proud of this team, these sophomores and the legacy that they left in this program," Meeks said. "They've accomplished a lot in these two years. They truly built the foundation for what we want. These girls have become a family. That's what makes it hurt because it is a family. They're all extremely close and this is a sisterhood. We're proud of them and we're blessed to have had them."

Despite Pearl River (31-17 overall) shutting Northeast (30-19) down over the first two innings of the contest, the Tigers were able to break through in the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead.

NEMCC added on three more runs in the fifth inning to jump ahead 7-0.

Alcorn State signee Hannah Miller (Kokomo; West Marion) put an end to the shutout in the seventh with an RBI single that drove in Emily Rigney (Waynesboro; Wayne County).

The Tigers put an end to the game shortly after, winning 7-1.
