Pearl River softball earns 3 All-Region selections

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The latest edition of postseason awards rolled out on Monday, and the Pearl River softball team landed three players on the All-Region 23 team.

The three Wildcats selected were Natalie Herrington (Petal), Morgan Lavergne (Baton Rouge, La.; Central) and Brinson Anne Rogers (Statesboro, Ga.).

NATALIE HERRINGTON
Herrington had a freshman season to remember in 2023. In 143 2/3 innings pitched, the Petal product pitched her way to a 1.51 earned run average. She ended the year with a 15-6 record and threw 15 complete games. The right-hander tallied 129 strikeouts and walked only 26 batters.

"Natalie is a competitor and brings so much to our staff," Pearl River coach Christie Meeks said. "She never backs down and always pushes herself. We are so happy that she is a Wildcat, and with her heart and drive, she has earned this."

MORGAN LAVERGNE
Lavergne was a significant part of the Wildcats' offensive success during the season. Batting as the leadoff batter all year, Lavergne led the Wildcats in nearly every statistical category, leading the team with a .391 batting average, .473 on-base percentage, .715 slugging percentage, 70 hits, 46 RBI, 16 doubles, 12 homers and three triples.

"Morgan is a special kind of player. She is the definition of hard work," Meeks said. "I love watching her drive and excitement for the game each day. We are so proud of what she accomplished this year."

BRINSON ANNE ROGERS
The award is just the latest to be added to the trophy cabinet for Rogers, who has already been named First Team All-MACCC, MACCC Pitcher of the Year, NFCA All-Region and NFCA All-American. The 6-foot-4 pitcher finished her season with a stellar 20-4 record and 18 complete games. She tallied one save and finished off a pair of no-hitters. She walked 41 batters on the year but struck out an unbelievable 267. At the end of the season, Rogers' ERA stood at 1.05, which was third in the NJCAA.

"Brinson is a force on the circle. I am so proud of this accomplishment for her," Meeks said. "She came here as a fantastic player, but I have had the opportunity to watch her grow into an even better person. She has earned it."
