Wildcats drop slugfest against East Central

DECATUR, Miss.— Every road game in the MACJC is a challenge and the Pearl River women's basketball team saw that firsthand Monday night when they dropped a 58-47 contest to South division foe East Central.

Pearl River coach Scotty Fletcher felt that his team has to both improve its energy execution.

"We didn't come up here with the right mindset. That's what I told the girls, they have to be connected" Fletcher said. "We gave up way too many offensive rebounds in the first half. The girls that have been carrying us didn't tonight. We tried everything but at the end of the day you have to get stops and make shots and we didn't do that. "

The Wildcats (11-7 overall, 4-5 MACJC South) got off to a sluggish start offensively going up against a salty Lady Warrior defense.

Alanna Smith (Picayune) kept the Wildcats up to speed in the first quarter scoring six of PRCC's 10 points. Four came in the form of free throws, a made jump shot and a pressured shot that went in at the buzzer to make it a 12-10 game.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats find themselves offensively as they took a 26-24 lead into the half.

From that point on East Central (8-10, 3-6) set the tone and never looked back.

The Lady Warriors went on several runs in the second half to upend the Wildcats and consistently stifled Pearl River's offense with gritty defensive play.

"We know how tough it is to get road wins in this league last year," Fletcher said. "There has to be certain level of attention to detail to get it done. The ball just didn't bounce our way tonight. We'll get better from this. We're still searching for that road win."

LEADING THE WAY

Smith once again led the Wildcats on the offensive front with 15 points while Briennna Miller (Moss Point) was second on the team in points with eight.
