Pearl River women cruise past Southern-Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. — The Pearl River women's basketball team was on cruise control from the opening tip in Thursday's game at Southern-Shreveport, coasting to a 99-58 victory.

"We were really able to use our depth over the course of all 40 minutes," head coach Scotty Fletcher said. "That allowed us to use some big runs to extend the lead despite a slow start. I thought we did well with creating live ball turnovers and used our defense to create a lot of offense."

Fletcher touched on the tough environment and how his team was able to band together to come away with the victory.

"You have to give credit where credit is due, Southern-Shreveport started fast like they have when you look at their first couple of games, but I feel like our girls were able to weather the storm of playing in a very loud environment," he said. "I think the girls are really starting to play for and with each other which has really helped our growth as a team.

"It is such an honor and privilege to coach these girls, they are a fun group to coach and I feel like they have a lot of potential."

The first quarter of the night was tightly contested with the Wildcats (3-0 overall) holding a slim 16-11 lead.

Pearl River propelled itself to a massive 44-22 lead to end the first half.

The Wildcats continued to pour it on Southern-Shreveport (1-3), leading 72-35 after the third quarter.

Pearl River built on the momentum it had after the first three quarters and never looked back, winning 99-58.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Pearl River had four players finish with double-digit points. J'Mani Ingram (North Augusta, S.C.) led the way with 19 points. Keshunti Nichols (Pearl) was second with 18 points, and Halle Traylor (Tupelo) finished with 12.

"I thought Jemani, KeKe, and Halle shot the ball really well," Fletcher said. "They also made an impact on the defensive end of the floor."

Jaliscia Florence (Tupelo) finished with 11 points of her own and ran the floor well from her point guard position.

"I feel like Jaliscia had a really good game statistically speaking," Fletcher said. "She was also really disruptive on the defensive end as well."
