Three Pearl River standouts honored by MACCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference recently announced its 2022-23 All-Conference teams and three Pearl River women's basketball players have landed on the list.

Guard J'Mani Ingram (North Augusta, S.C.) was named first-team while guard Ty'Mesha Reed (Meridian) and center Marcavia Shavers (Biloxi) were named second team.

"I am beyond excited for our program and the postseason awards J'Mani, Ty'Mesha, and Marcavia received. They are all very deserving of the success and accomplishments that come their way," Pearl River coach Scotty Fletcher said. "This team will go down as one of the best teams to ever play here. These young women answered the challenge night in and night out and set many program records while wearing the maroon-and-gold and will be missed deeply. Their names will forever be etched into our basketball history."

J'MANI INGRAM
Ingram transferred to Pearl River from Winthrop and was an instant star for the Wildcats, playing every position that she was asked to. The sophomore averaged a stellar 13.6 points per game on the season which ranked eighth best in the MACCC. In rebounds, Ingram ranked 18th in the MACCC with six per game. She also added in 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Ingram's best game of the year was a 26-point outpouring against Gulf Coast. She also had five rebounds and two steals.

After a fantastic Region 23 Tournament, Ingram was named to the All-Tournament team. She also picked up one MACCC Player of the Week award over the season.

"J'Mani established herself as one of the premier guards in our conference. She was a stellar two-way player that exemplified leadership, experience, and a competitive spirit this team needed to have the success we had this season," Fletcher said. "She answered the bell every night and played with an edge that allowed herself and this year's team to achieve national recognition and win 24 games and only lose 3 times which is the fewest losses in school history. I have said it many times before, she is the best player I have coached, and it was a true honor to have her in our program."

TY'MESHA REED
Over her three seasons with the Wildcats, Reed has been a phenomenal distributor of the basketball. The sophomore finished seventh in the MACCC with 3.8 assists per game. She also averaged 8.3 points per game, 2.7 assists per game and 1.5 steals per game.

Reed's best game of the 2022-23 season came against Holmes where she scored 19 points, assisted on six baskets and hauled in five rebounds. She scored double-digit points 11 times throughout the campaign.

"Ty'Mesha made a lot of growth and became a big-time playmaker and scorer which is what we needed from her," Fletcher said. "She established herself as an elite point guard amongst her peers. Ty was an absolute joy to coach and there is no question we would not have had the team's success we have had over the last two years without her running the show for us night in and night out. She is very deserving of this award and has a bright future ahead of her."

MARCAVIA SHAVERS
Shavers has proved to be one of the most dominant post players in the country over her three years in the maroon-and-gold. She was tops on the Wildcats and third in the MACCC in rebounds with a mark of 8.9 per game. She also averaged 6.6 points.

Shavers' best game of the season came against Meridian. In the game, she turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked three shots in the game and assisted on one basket.

"Marcavia as we all know established herself as a force to be reckoned with inside," Fletcher said. "She dominated the paint on both ends and was a rebounding machine. Her play and reputation exceeded her as one of the top post players in the country.

"Marcavia is the best teammate and an exceptional leader that brought so much value to our program daily. There is no question she will continue her basketball dominance in the years to come."
