POPLARVILLE, Miss. — After helping the No. 11 Pearl River women's basketball team clinch a share of the 2023-24 MACCC Championship, Avery Young (Iota, La.) has been named the MACCC Player of the Week.

Young began the week with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in a victory over Mississippi Delta. The sophomore guard stepped up her game when the Wildcats were playing for a championship on Thursday against Northeast. In the game, she scored a career-high 36 points on an incredible 13-for-17 showing from the floor. She knocked down 2 of 3 3-pointers she shot and went 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Additionally, she added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in the game.

Young has been a crucial part of Pearl River's success this season. Through 27 games, she is averaging 10.1 points, 3.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
