POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The postseason accolades continue for members of the Pearl River women's basketball team. Sophomores Taylor Johnson-Matthews (Charles F. Brush; Cleveland, Ohio) and Hama'ya Fielder (Philadelphia; Neshoba Central) were selected to participate in the inaugural NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame 3-on-3 event later this month in Knoxville, Tenn.

The 3-on-3 event will take place during the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame weekend from April 25-28. The inaugural event will showcase 40 of the top sophomore NJCAA Student-Athletes. 

TAYLOR JOHNSON-MATTHEWS
Johnson-Matthews joined Pearl River following a freshman campaign at Wright State. Johnson-Matthews set a high bar in her lone season averaging 18.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

Following the 2023-2024 season, Johnson-Matthews was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America Second Team. Johnson-Matthews was also recognized as the 2024 MACCC Player of the Year and named First Team All-MACCC, All-Region 23 and named to the Region 23 Tournament team.

"I was excited that I was considered one of the top NJCAA sophomores in the country," Johnson-Matthews said. "It's such an honor to be selected with some of the top players in the country. I am blessed that I am able to compete."

HAMA'YA FIELDER
Fielder entered her sophomore campaign with high expectations following an impressive freshman season and she met those expectations. Fielder averaged 9.9 points per game during the 2023-24 season and shot an impressive 35.9 percent from the three-point line.  

Fielder was named Second Team All-MACCC following the 2023-2024 season.

"When I found out I was selected to participate, I first thanked God because, without him, none of this would be possible," Fielder said. "I was extremely happy and very appreciative of this opportunity. It means a lot to me because nothing is ever given to me. I had to work for it and feel like I have worked for this amazing opportunity."

Fielder signed to play at Old Dominion University next year.
