Pearl River’s Tate Parker hits his way to MACCC honor

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River slugger Tate Parker (Gulfport; West Harrison) has been named the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

In what has been a regular occurrence for the South Alabama signee, Parker had yet another monster week for No. 7 Pearl River.

In four games — two at No. 7 Jones College and two more at Meridian — the center fielder hit .636 with three home runs, four RBIs, five walks and nine runs scored. As if that wasn't enough, Parker also stole two bases.

Entering Tuesday's home doubleheader against Southwest, Parker was leading the NJCAA Division II ranks with seven home runs. His 17 RBIs are good enough for second in the nation.

Additionally, Parker is hitting .528 on the year with three doubles and four strikeouts.

Parker is the first Wildcat to be honored by the MACCC this season. As the league's winner, Parker has been nominated for the NJCAA's weekly honor.
