Pearl River’s Tate Parker wins MACCC honor

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River slugger Tate Parker (Gulfport; West Harrison) has been named the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The honor is Parker's second of the season.

The South Alabama signee earned the honor after helping to lead No. 2 Pearl River (19-5 overall; 9-3 MACCC) to a perfect 4-0 week with sweeps of Copiah-Lincoln and East Mississippi.

During the perfect week, Parker hit .545 with two doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs and nine runs scored. He also walked four times and stole a base.

Parker has been a terror for opposing pitchers all season. Through 24 games, Parker leads PRCC with a .442 average, eight doubles, nine home runs, 34 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He's also second on the team with 10 stolen bases. 

Nationally, Parker is tied among Division II batters in homers and ranks third in RBIs. His .896 slugging percentage ranks fourth among batters with at least 10 games played. 

Additionally, Parker has been perfect in the field in 37 total chances.

VOTING FOR 'CATS
Teammate Landon Gartman (Bogue Chitto; Enterprise) has also been popular among voters, earning MACCC Pitcher of the Week honors three times this season.
