No. 3 Pearl River sweeps tune-up series against Spring Hill JV

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The No. 3 Pearl River baseball team took to the road Thursday night and swept a tune-up series against Spring Hill JV.

GAME ONE
Pearl River (39-9 overall) took the lead in the fourth inning, plating two runs. Preston Soper (Madison; Germantown) led off the frame with a single which was followed by an Alex Perry (McComb; North Pike) walk. Soper came around to score on a Triston

Hickman (Wiggins; Stone County) sacrifice fly and Perry scored on a Hunter Sute (Tuscaloosa, Ala.; American Christian Academy) RBI single, 2-0.

PRCC grabbed a run in the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Hickman, 3-0.

The Wildcats scored nine runs in the seventh for a 12-0 advantage. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Ian Montz (Lafayette, La.; Acadiana) and Soper as well as a triple by Blaise Breerwood (Poplarville).

Spring Hill JV scored its only run of the game in the bottom half of the frame and PRCC secured the win, 12-1.

Will Passeau (Mobile, Ala.; St. Paul's) threw four innings, allowing one hit and one walk. He struck out five Badgers. Blake Gollott (Saucier; D'Iberville) threw two innings and struck out one batter. Landen Payne (Ocean Springs; St. Martin) tossed an inning and gave up an unearned run on one hit.

Soper was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Perry was 2-for-3 with two walks. Katsaboulas was also 2-for-3.

GAME TWO
Two RBI groundouts by Perry and Logan Walters (Petal) gave the Wildcats an early 2-0 advantage in game two. An inning later, Walters struck again with a two-run double which was followed by Perry scoring on an error, 5-0.

Perry picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Spring Hill put up three runs of its own, 6-3.

The fifth saw PRCC capitalize on an SHC error to build onto its lead, 7-3.

Pearl River had a big sixth inning, adding five runs to its lead to move ahead 12-3. The runs scored on a Soper walk, a Jonah Katsaboulas (Pearl; Brandon) two-run double and a double steal. The Badgers scored one in the bottom half of the inning, 12-4.

Perry capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh, 13-4.

Spring Hill JV doubled home a run in the bottom half, but the Wildcats closed the door to win 13-5.

Cortez Dennis (Wiggins; Stone County) struck out four in two innings of work. JT Schnoor (Pascagoula; Resurrection) threw an inning and struck out two. Byrion Robinson (Brookhaven) allowed three runs on three walks. He picked up one strikeout. Jordan Belsome (Poplarville) threw 1 2/3 innings, working around two hits. Cameron Fennell (Long Beach) allowed one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out a pair. Brennan Jones (Gulfport; West Harrison) allowed four hits and one run in one inning pitched.

Perry went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Katsaboulas finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run. Soper was 1-for-1 with three walks. Passeau was 1-for-3 with two walks.

NEXT UP
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday for a very important matchup with rival Jones College. The series at Dub Herring Park will get underway at 3 p.m.
