POPLARVILLE — The holidays have come and gone and the Pearl River women's basketball team is hard at work trying to become the "best version of themselves."

Scotty Fletcher's squad ended the 2018 portion of the season with a road trip to Florida, where they posted a 1-1 record.

The Lady Wildcats' (6-2) dropped a close one to Gadsden State but bounced back with a victory over ASA College where they pulled away late in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Wildcats returned to practice after Christmas and Fletcher is adamant his team is playing its best ball right now.

"We came back right after Christmas and we have been doing two-a-days pretty much everyday," Fletcher said. "The girls have come back with an unbelievable attitude. We have probably had our best practices so far compared to the fall."

Coming out of the break, the PRCC women have focused a lot on themselves.

"For the month of January our focus has been becoming the best versions of ourselves and that there is one thing that is keeping you from being the best version of you," Fletcher said. "It could be anything that is distracting, so our goal for the month is to box that out and keep a positive cloud around our team."

The path doesn't get much easier for PRCC as they now head into a two-game road stretch this week. PRCC visits Delgado (3-10) Tuesday at 5 p.m. and then head to Decatur on Thursday to play East Central Community College at 5:30 p.m.

PRCC defeated Delgado 68-32 last November in their season opener.

Fletcher is making sure his team stays focused and takes it one game at a time.

"We tell our girls our most important game is our next game, so right now Delgado is the main focus," Fletcher said.

The Wildcats then take on East Central (8-1).

"East Central is a great and well respected program," Fletcher said. "They are very well coached."

The PRCC-ECCC game can be heard on WRJW 1320 AM and WRJWRadio.com. The Warriors will also stream the game at ECCC.edu/eccc-media

The Lady Wildcats return to Marvin R. White Coliseum next Monday when they host Jones College at 5:30 p.m.

"Jones is a top 10 program, I have a lot of respect for that program and that coaching staff," Fletcher said.

The JC match will be carried on WRJW 1320 AM and WRJWRadio.com. It will also be livestreamed at PRCCAthletics.com.
