Pearl River’s Dexter Jordan hits his way to MACJC honor

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River second baseman Dexter Jordan (Hattiesburg) hit his way to the MACJC Player of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday.

Jordan is the latest Wildcat to be honored by the MACJC, joining Shemar Page (Raleigh), Miles Smith (Laurel; Northeast Jones), Reece Ewing (Mobile, Ala.; Faith Academy) and Wiley Cleland (Columbia; Columbia Academy).

The freshman had a stellar week at the plate for No. 6 Pearl River (32-9 overall, 17-7 MACJC) as the Wildcats split with Hinds and swept Coahoma.

Jordan hit .500 on the week. Of Jordan's six hits, five went for extra bases; including three doubles and two home runs. He also drove in nine runs, scored four times, was hit by a pitch, walked twice without striking out and stole a base. Jordan also compiled a .600 on-base percentage and 1.250 slugging percentage in the four games.

Jordan's homers were particularly significant because they were both with the bases loaded. The second baseman hit a grand slam to walk off Hinds 15-4 in eight innings and then led off Saturday's 6-1 victory over Coahoma with another grand slam in the first inning.

Jordan is hitting .291 on the year with a .388 OBP and .688 slugging percentage. His 14 home runs lead the team and league and are fourth nationally — six behind the leader.

Jordan has also tallied 12 doubles, driven in 49 runs and scored 36 times.
